You'll have a great time there. What you should do is fly direct to Cape Town and spend a couple of days in the mother city. Then in your rental drive up the east coast, take your time plenty to see, and then onto the Gold Mines in the Free State, not much to see, then onto Kwazulu Natal to a city called Durban. When you tire of this goto Joey's (Johannesburg) spend sometime there and don't forget to hit Sun City before leaving for the US
